World Music Discography
About the Discography
This is a list of world music sound recordings in the collection of the George Sherman Dickinson Music Library. It is comprised largely of LP's, although new additions to the collection are in CD or cassette format.
The organization of this discography is based upon George Peter Murdock's Outline of World Cultures. 5th ed. New Haven, Connecticut: Human Relations Area Files, Inc, 1976. Mus Lib REF GN 345.3 M87 1975.
How to Search the Discography
This Internet version of the World Music Discography may be searched by linking to the area of interest in the Table of Contents. Key word searching of titles is also possible through some browsers, such as Netscape, by utilizing the "find" option at the top of the Netscape screen. Note: this option will yield only one hit at a time, so multiple "find" searches are necessary to locate all hits.
How to Listen to These Recordings
The recordings in this discography are housed in the George Sherman Dickinson Music Library, located the first floor of the Belle Skinner Hall of Music.
Reference LP's (those with letters in the call numbers) are for in-library use and may be listened to in the Listening Rooms of the Music Library. CD's and cassettes (indicated, respectively, by "CD" or "CAS" in the call number) may also be used in the Listening Rooms or they may be checked out of the Music Library to anyone with a valid Vassar College ID card. CD's and cassettes have varying loan periods and some have high overdue fines.
